Where to Use Movement Joints
Movement joints play a crucial role in preventing tile debonding from the substrate. According to industry guidelines and British Standards (BS) 5385, movement joints should be installed in areas where stresses occur, such as changes in substrate or gaps in the substrate. Ensure that movement joints are strategically placed, with a maximum field size of no more than 10m in each direction, depending on the application.
Installation:
Follow these steps for proper installation of the Genesis MSA Heavy Duty Aluminium Movement Joint:
1. Select the correct depth of the profile based on the tile depth.
2. Use a suitable notched trowel to spread tile adhesive onto the floor, following the manufacturer's guidelines.
3. Firmly bed the adhesive into the correct location, ensuring it penetrates the holes in the flange.
4. Spread the adhesive over the anchoring legs and firmly press the tiles into the adhesive. The profile should be approximately 1mm lower than the tile.
5. Leave a grout joint between the tile and the profile to allow for expansion and movement.
