Engineered (Semi Solid) Flooring
Semi Solid/Engineered flooring has a layer of real wood on top of an engineered base. It gives the effect of a solid wood floor whilst the engineered base layer provides resistance to heat and moisture changes in your room.
Depending on how thick the real wood top layer is, this floor type can be sanded down and stained in the same way that solid wood flooring can.
Semi solid flooring offers the look & feel of solid wood but is better suited to changes in heat & humidity than solid wood flooring.
Ranging in thickness, the layered construction of this flooring makes it hard-wearing and durable. And it can be sanded and re-lacquered a few times so that you can help extend the life of your flooring.
• a strengthening bottom layer - this adds stability
• a soft wood or HDF middle layer
• a solid wood top - this top layer is made from a single piece of wood so it looks like solid wood once laid
Engineered wood flooring is more closely aligned to solid hardwood than laminate because it does incorporate a thin veneer of natural wood on top of plywood. Because plywood's layers run perpendicular to each other, it is more dimensionally stable than solid wood
