Plywood is an extremely versatile product. It is used for a wide range of interior, exterior and structural applications - from shuttering formwork through to internal finish grade plywood.
Plywood is basically a number of thin pieces of wood bonded together to produce a flat sheet. The biggest differences between each type of plywood are:
1. The overall thickness (6mm, 12mm, 18mm etc)
2. The type and quality of timber used (Birch, hardwood etc) and
3. The grade and certification standard of plywood specified (BB/BB, CE2+ EN636/2 etc)
Below are the types of plywood we currently stock on our website. We also stock other sheet materials such as Chipboard & MDF
Hardwood Faced Plywood
These are suitable for structural applications (CE2+) Species for humid conditions (EN636/2). Hardwood plywood refers to any panel product in which the face of the panel is made of hardwood veneer.
Hardwood plywood panels are perfect for hundreds of end use applications. Some of the more common uses are finished furniture, cabinets, casework, doors, fixtures and displays, and a wide variety of other industrial, residential and DIY applications.
Marine Plywood
Marine Plywood is manufactured from durable face and core veneers, with few defects so it performs longer in humid and wet conditions. Its construction is such that it can be used in environments where it is exposed to moisture for long periods.
In external use it is recommended that all edges face and back are sealed with a suitable sealant. Manufactured with fully waterproof (immersion and boiling water tested) WBP phenolic glues. Marine Ply can be used in domestic applications on walls, floors that are overlaid with tiles and for fascia and soffits
This is construction grade Marine Plywood so not suitable for boat building. It does not comply with BS-5268.
Shuttering Plywood
Shuttering plywood is suitable for concrete shuttering, site hoarding, roofing or flooring. Constructed with high quality phenolic adhesive WBP - Water and Boil Proof standards (also known as Weather and Boil Proof). Shuttering plywood has a quality pine face with a softwood core.
Shuttering ply is for use in construction for non structural application (CE4) In situations where it is intended to be covered after installation for example on a flat roof under felt, shuttering plywood is generally used. Shuttering plywood should be sealed with varnish or similar if it is to be used in wet or exposed locations.
Birch Plywood
Birch plywood is constructed from multiple layers of thin veneers to create a strong and durable multi-ply panel. Birch Plywood is a high-quality construction material with an excellent durability and resistance to moisture.
Its excellent strength to weight ratio make it ideal for use in construction, furniture, shelves and packaging.
The interior plywood is easy to work with; it goes perfectly well with finish materials. It is water resistant, however it is not recommended to use it for exterior finish.
This material is ideal for interior use.
Fire Rated Birch Plywood also available

Ainsworth Pourform
Savona (Ainsworth) Pourform-107 concrete-forming panels have earned a 40-year reputation as the world’s most dependable and popular high-quality MDO panel. Engineered for exceptional strength and reusability.
Pourform-107 is overlaid on the panel face with a unique, olive green-coloured phenolic resin-impregnated overlay (with the highest percentage of free-flow resins of any MDO panel available). The overlay is bonded to the panel face under high heat and pressure. This forms a hard, durable surface that resists abrasion and moisture and makes the panel easy to strip from concrete surfaces.
This overlay also protects the wood substrate from the rigors of site construction, including exposure to water and alkali solutions. Pourform-107 panels produce a non-architectural matte concrete finish uniform in colour, with moderate grain/patch transfer
Pourform-107 should give from 10-15 reuses. This will vary according to application, service conditions, form maintenance and handling, and form release quality.
Phenolic Face Plywood
Black Film Faced Plywood is made from poplar veneer, overlaid with Dynea coated paper, edges and sealed to give a moisture resistant board. It has a high load baring capacity and due to its strength it is ideal for formwork and will keep its shape regardless of changes in humidity.
WISA-Form MDO
WISA-Form MDO is a spruce based product for various formwork applications. The light weight of the panel makes it easy to handle and medium density overlay on the face gives a constant matt finish to the concrete surface.
It is light weight with a smooth matt finish. It also has good striking properties Used for horizontal formwork, vertical formwork & special formwork
It is bonded with weather resistant glue according to EN 314-2/class 3.
Care and Handling of Plywood
General Storing and Handling
Plywood, like any other panel product, requires proper handling and storage. Despite its sturdy cross-laminated construction, face veneers, panel edges and panel corners are vulnerable to damage and should always be protected.
Plywood is manufactured at a low moisture content and while small changes in moisture content will not appreciably affect its dimensions, large changes should be avoided since they may encourage checking of the face veneer with consequent impairment of its qualities as a paint base. It is good practice to store plywood which is to be used for interior finish under conditions that approximate those it will experience in service.
Points to watch when handling plywood are:
1. Store plywood panels flat and level.
2. Keep finish faces inward and cover stacks to protect from bumping and abrasion.
3. Protect panel edges and corners. This is especially important with tongue and groove plywood.
4. Carry panels on edge (always being careful not to damage faces, edges and corners).
5. When plywood is used as a finishing material, deliver to job-site at the last possible moment.
6. Protect panels from sunlight, water or excessive humidity.
7. All cut edges should be sealed with a good quality varnish or oil based paint.
